In spite of their increasing irrelevance, the race hustlers in the #BlackLivesMatter movement continue to make the news. For example, just this week one of the group’s prominent leaders was “outed” as … hold your breaths, folks … a white guy! Yep. Shaun King, a white dude who actually happens to look like a white dude, has been claiming to be bi-racial for years. He apparently lied to get a scholarship from Oprah Winfrey to attend the racially-segregated-but-it’s-okay-because-it-goes-the-other-way “historically black” Morehouse College. Oops!
Useful idiots from the #BlackLivesMatter movement have shouted down speakers, staged rallies, and of course shut down freeways. When law enforcement arrived to break up a freeway shutdown in Ferguson to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the justified shooting of an African-American criminal, cameras caught a police officer body-slamming an uncooperative protester. Luckily, the guy was white, so Al Sharpton didn’t have to get his panties in a bunch.
Nutroots Netroots Nation conference, presidential candidate Martin O’Malley and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders were shouted down by protesters when O’Malley made the ultimate leftist faux pas. After being interrupted by rabid activists in the audience, he clumsily attempted to span the gap between the #BlackLivesMatter malcontents and … well, actual thinking people. He said: “Black lives matter. White lives matter. All lives matter.”
Oh no you didn’t!
Obviously, this was a bridge too far. Nobody—not even a liberal politician—is allowed to say that all lives matter, because to these leftist tools, they don’t. Only #BlackLivesMatter, dontchaknow? And only certain black lives matter.
Here’s the deal. Black lives matter if and only if:
- The life in question formerly belonged to a known criminal
- The known criminal was killed as a result of contact with the police
- The contact with the police happened because of criminal activity on the part of the “victim”
The two biggest “causes” in the #BlackLivesMatter mythology include:
Michael Brown, the “gentle giant” who was gunned down in cold blood in Ferguson, MO. Teenager Brown was unarmed and had raised his arms but was still shot in the back by a racist cop.
Freddie Gray, a model citizen who had his spine snapped in two by racist cops in Baltimore after an illegal arrest for possession of a knife that was totally legal in Maryland.
Of course, none of this turned out to be true. Michael Brown was caught on tape committing a robbery just a few minutes before his attempted arrest, and attacked Officer Darren Wilson twice—once in his car and again when he turned and charged the cop instead of submitting. “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” has been proven false, and yet the myth continues.
We also know that Freddie Gray fled from the police, who chased him down and arrested him for possession of a knife that was against the law in Baltimore. Three of the “racist cops” charged in his death are black. While all of the evidence hasn’t yet been released, it appears probable that Gray injured himself in an attempt to coerce a payout from the Baltimore Police Department. In addition to his long criminal record, he had a history of that sort of thing.
Regardless of the fact that the cause célèbres of the #BlackLivesMatter crowd all turn out to be violent thugs, we’re supposed to indict all of law enforcement officers for (when it comes right down to it) doing their jobs.
A few days ago I came across a helpful and instructive tutorial on white guilt by “nerdy feminist” and crazy-cat-lady-in-training Bailey (@the_author_), who took five whole minutes out of her busy progressive life to school all of us Caucasian troglodytes regarding why it’s totes racist for anyone (especially a Caucasian troglodyte) to ever say “all lives matter.” You can read her entire series of tweets here, but I’m pasting screenshots, which I will mock below.
There’s something just completely wrong with one white person condescendingly addressing other white people as “white people.” Leftists love to talk about “otherness,” and there’s no surer way to demonstrate that you’re an elitist “otherness” asshole than to treat people like this. This is what leftists do.
So saying “all lives matter” is racist. Let’s find out why, shall we?
If that’s the case, then why the emphasis on black lives and only black lives? Why don’t the #BlackLivesMatter douchebags shut down freeways every time a police officer guns down an unarmed white teen? Because we know that black police officers never shoot unarmed white guys, right? Also, why is it we hear nary a peep when black perpetrators kill white people, as they do in out-of-proportion numbers?
For some reason, we never hear about the six black victims (on average) every single day—over 2,200 annually—killed at the hands of other black people. You’d think those black lives would matter, too. Also, why no outcry about the 1,876 black lives (on average) destroyed every single day in the United States via abortion?
Oh, right. We’re not supposed to talk about those black lives. Only the lives taken by the evil, racist po-po are useful as political tools for “social change.”
If you pay attention, the standard leftist argument on just about any subject almost always comes down to this:
You nailed it, Bailey.
OK, let’s get to the meat of her “argument” (if it can even be called that).
Bailey is claiming that African-Americans are being “murdered at the hands of the State.” The #BlackLivesMatters twits claim this is happening in epidemic numbers. But is it true?
First we have to establish a baseline. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, African-Americans (or those who, like Shaun King and Rachel Dolezal, identify as African-American) make up 13.2% of the population. White/non-Hispanic people make up 62.6% of the population. So that’s a ratio of about 4.74 to 1. This is important.
According to Department of Justice statistics, African-American offenders commit 22.4% of all violent crime in America. When you include all non-violent crimes, the FBI’s statistics indicate that black offenders commit 32.2% of all crime in the United States. Any discussion of crime and punishment in America has to begin with the understanding that black people in general—and black men, specifically—have much more contact with the police because they are more likely to commit crimes.
In addition, according to statistics from the Department of Justice:
- African-Americans commit 50.8% of all murders in the United States
- African-Americans commit 33.9% of all rapes in the United States
- African-Americans commit 68.6% of all robberies in the United States
- African-Americans commit 42.7% of all aggravated assaults in the United States
All of these percentages are well over double the percentage of African-Americans in the population.
An analysis of the DOJ’s statistics regarding race-on-race victimization tells an interesting story regarding the racial breakdown of interracial violent crimes. According to the numbers:
- White on white: 56.0% of 4,091,971 = 2,291,503
- White on black: 10.4% of 955,800 = 99,403
- Black on black: 62.2% of 955,996 = 594,629
- Black on white: 13.7% of 4,091,971 = 560,600
Black offenders commit 5.63 times more violent crimes on white victims than the other way around, in spite of the fact that black people make up 13.2% of the population and whites make up 62.6% of the population. That means a white person is nearly 27 times more likely to be victimized by a black person than a black person is to be victimized by a white person.
Full 2014 numbers for race-on-race murders aren’t available yet. But the numbers for 2013 are available.
- Whites murdered 2,509 white victims, or about 43.8% of all murders
- Whites murdered 189 black victims, or about 3.3% of all murders
- Blacks murdered 2,245 black victims, or about 39.2% of all murders
- Blacks murdered 409 white victims, or about 7.1% of all murders
Black people murder white people at a ratio of 2.16 to 1. Again, keeping in mind the population disparity, a white person is more than 10 times more likely to be murdered by a black person in American than a black person is to be murdered by a white person.
I won’t even address the inane claim that saying “all lives matter” is somehow “an act of violence” in the face on a non-existent “epidemic.” Sticks and stones, you knucklehead.
Let’s address the “epidemic” of black people being killed by racist white officers. This is the “specific situation” Bailey is talking about above.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics actually keeps track of this stuff. The latest detailed reporting period, which is from 2003 to 2009, found 4,813 arrest-related deaths in over 98 million arrests. Of the nearly 5,000 cases in the study, 2,931 were classified as “homicide by law enforcement personnel.” Note that the use of the term “homicide” doesn’t necessarily indicate criminal action (though a small fraction of police shootings do result in an indictment). It just means that actions by the police caused the death of the person in custody or being arrested.
Okay, so in that 2003-2009 study, 42.1% of those who died during or shortly after an arrest were white, and 31.8% were black. Remember that black perpetrators, according to the FBI, commit 32.2% of all crime in the United States (22.4% of all violent crime). This means that, at least during this period, black people are killed during arrest at just under the ratio at which they commit crimes.
|All Deaths||4,813||0.0005%||1 in 20,362|
|LE Homicide||2,931||0.0003%||1 in 33,436|
Your chances of being offed by the po-po while you’re being arrested are about 1 in 33,000. (By the way: your chances of being shot by the police if you do absolutely nothing wrong … almost zero.) Still seem like an epidemic to you?
A more recent study, this one by the Washington Post, examined 385 police shootings for 2015. According to WaPo, 365 men and 20 women had been shot and killed by law enforcement when this analysis was done. Of those 365 men, 171 were white (46.8%) and 100 were black (27.4%). Overall, 27.3% of those killed by the police were black, compared to 31.8% during the 2003-2009 study.
That sounds like things are actually improving, and not getting worse. Where’s the epidemic?
It’s hilarious to hear a palangi leftist like Bailey complain about white supremacy. Check your own privilege, sweetie. Bailey is a member of a racial group that is victimized 27 times more often by African-Americans than the other way around. Bailey is a self-proclaimed feminist, so you don’t have to wonder too much about how she feels about “women’s issues.” I wonder how she would respond to another violent crime statistic. According to the National Victimization Crime Survey (NVCS) conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, you find that between 2003 and 2008, the total cases of black-on-white rape is 135,206, or an average of 22,534 per year. That means that every single day, a black person rapes a white person 62 times.
The number for white-on-black rapes was zero. I’m not even joking.
I also want to point out the “black supremacy” demonstrated in Bailey’s tweets. If you go back and scrutinize them, you’ll notice that in every single case, she capitalizes “Black” but does not capitalize “white.” Black people rate a capital letter but us white folks don’t? What are you telling us, Bailey?
Wait a second. She just said “Obviously all lives matter.” Didn’t you just say it’s racist to say that? Are you saying it “does not need said,” but if it does get said it’s racist … unless it’s Bailey who does the saying? Now I’m confused.
Yes. And mostly by other African-Americans. Why aren’t you speaking up about that?
When you talk about the #BlackLivesMatter movement, you just can’t ignore the “Ferguson Effect.” Thanks to race whores like Al Sharpton and the useful idiots at #BlackLivesMatter (and because of the efforts of people like Marilyn Mosby, the state’s attorney in Baltimore who charged six police officers for the death of Freddie King), crime is up sharply in Democrat/black strongholds (but I repeat myself).
Baltimore’s murder rate is up 37%, and Milwaukee’s is up 180%. In St. Louis, shootings are up 39%, robberies 43%, and homicides 25%. Chicago’s homicide rate is up 17%, and Atlanta is up 32%. The rate of violent crime in Los Angeles is up 27%. The list goes on and on.
This is one of those “no duh” phenomena. When police officers see what happened to Darren Wilson in Ferguson, and to Caesar Goodson Jr., Garrett Miller, Edward Nero, Alicia White, Brian Rice and William Porter in Baltimore, they have every right to be concerned. And when the police are afraid to do their jobs aggressively and effectively, crime goes unprevented, uninvestigated and unpunished. The main message of the Ferguson and Baltimore “protests” was “We don’t want police in our neighborhoods.” The police have given the people what they asked for. The result is clear.
Most of the victims in this crime wave are black. Think about that for just a moment. As a direct result of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, more black people are now being killed than ever before. Congratulation, guys … you’ve officially become a headline on TheOnion.
This is stupid, sloppy thinking.
First, I’m not a police officer, so I have no responsibility for the 239 African-Americans who were killed last year by the police. Second, I’m white but I’m not a murderer, so I have no responsibility for the 200 or so black people murdered last year by white people. Third, I’m not African-American, so I have no responsibility for the well over 2,000 black people murdered last year by other black people. Fourth, I’m neither African-American nor an abortionist, so I have no responsibility for the nearly 70,000 black babies murdered last year by abortionists.
And for the record, I do not now hold, nor have I ever held, any slaves. Just thought I’d make that clear.
Actually, that’s not true. As Harvard law professor William Stuntz points out, “High rates of black violence in the late twentieth century are a matter of historical fact, not bigoted imagination…. The trends reached their peak not in the land of Jim Crow* but in the more civilized North, and not in the age of segregation but in the decades that saw the rise of civil rights for African Americans—and of African American control of city governments.”
Look at Baltimore. The town has been run by Democrats since 1967. With just two exceptions, every governor of Maryland since 1969 has been a Democrat. Mayor Stephanie “Room to Destroy” Rawlings-Blake is black. So is State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby and Police Commissioner Anthony Batts. Evidence suggests that Mosby specifically asked police to target the street corner where Freddie Gray was arrested. This is not a “white system.” This is primarily a black system, and almost entirely a Democrat system. Heal thyself, Bailey, before prescribing bitter pills to everyone else.
*It’s worth pointing out that the architects of Jim Crow laws were, like Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Marilyn Mosby and Anthony Batts, all Democrats.
Resistance to what? It’s easy to claim victimhood status, but much harder to prove. This is even more difficult in the face of overwhelming evidence that the group you’re “fighting for” is actually the perpetrator, not the victim.
Wilson and Herrnstein wrote in their seminal book, “Crime and Human Nature“:
“Even allowing for the existence of discrimination in the criminal justice system, the higher rates of crime among black Americans cannot be denied…. Every study of crime using official data shows blacks to be overrepresented among persons arrested, convicted, and imprisoned for street crimes.”
And every statistic I could find shows that African-Americans are shot by police at or below the rate at which they commit crimes. Wilson and Herrnstein continue:
“The overrepresentation of blacks among arrested persons persists throughout the criminal justice system…. Though prosecutors and judges may well make discriminatory judgments, such decisions do not account for more than a small fraction of the overrepresentation of blacks in prison.”
Crime rates have gone down considerably since those words were written. Aside from the overall rates, though, nothing substantive has changed. Black people are arrested and incarcerated at much higher rates than white people for one simple reason: they commit more crimes. Figure out a way to fix that one, Bailey, and then we’ll talk about all the rest of your nonsense.
I’m on the side of law-abiding citizens, Bailey. We already know whose side you’re on.
You’ve proven once again how bankrupt leftist positions are when it comes to race, crime and justice. Your hashtag advocacy, which is completely divorced from reality, is actually getting people killed. There is no greater irony (or idiocy) in liberal politics today than #BlackLivesMatter.
Oh, and at the risk of sounding racist, all lives matter. That goes without saying.
